6. Sausages

Sometimes we are entertained by the techniques and necessary activities of transmitter crews. South Manchester run a very popular monthly Sunday morning winter series of single station DF’s, and it is from one of these I quote. We have a tradition that the top six in the previous series have to run the six events in the next series thus it fell to John Jocys G4WQD to run an event. He decided to use a holly bush in a sparsely vegetated wood towards the south from the start at the club HQ, and was just having a fry up with the sausages in the pan when Chris Plummer , entered the wood from the North and Dave Holland from the South. With the wind in his face Chris got the scent of frying pork and homed in quickly to be rewarded with hot bangers, whilst Dave not being in scent range worked his way north, and found John’s son with the decoy transmitter. After beating up the boy, Dave got the scent and charged in saying ‘Am I first?’, which then went to expletives when he saw Chris chomping happily at the pork delights. He calmed rapidly when offer the same treats. Both Chris and Dave had taken a ‘flyer’ and got out of their cars early at the risk of having to run for miles.
